Poole Libraries are celebrating their 128th birthday this August Bank Holiday with the launch of their new eBook collection.
Residents are encouraged to visit Poole Central Library on Friday 22 August to find out about the 547 eBooks available – the same number of books that were in the original Poole Library on Lagland Street when it opened its doors to the public in August 1886.
Throughout the day staff will be on hand to show visitors how to download eBooks to their own tablets, eReaders or mobile phones, or just to come along and see how it’s done. There is also an opportunity to enter a competition to win an eReader.
With over over 100 free eBooks to read instantly online, ranging from popular fiction and non-fiction genres, there really is something for everyone. Arranged in themed ‘bookshelves’, eBooks are accessible anytime, anywhere on any device with internet access.
Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous, Sustainable and Active Poole, Borough of Poole said: “Our fantastic libraries already offer a wonderful collection of books and the introduction of the eBooks will make it even easier for our residents to borrow their latest reads. I hope that many people will be encouraged to come along on the day and see just how easy it is for them to download an eBook onto their own mobile device that they can enjoy at home, in the library, or on the move.”
