It disappeared between 10.30am on Friday 7 November and 8.30am on Sunday 9 November from the Dolphin Inn at Peacemarsh.
Police Constable Stuart Loudwell, of Blandford police, said: “This picture of Elton John was painted by the victim who then made great efforts to get it signed by the musician.
“I would like to hear from anyone who may know who was responsible for this theft to contact me.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered the item for sale locally or may have knowledge about it being sold online or at auction.”
