Two special Knoll Gardens Foundation events at Wimborne’s Knoll Gardens will focus on bugs, bees and all manner of wildlife.
In the week of the nation’s Big Butterfly Count, dedicated lepidopterist Keith Powrie will lead a walk around the gardens on Saturday 30 July to help identify the many butterflies to be found there. Keith has been recording butterfly sightings at Knoll for many years.
The walk takes place from 11am to 12.30pm. It is free to attend but as Keith’s events are always very popular, booking is essential. To book, call Knoll Gardens on 01202 873931.
On Tuesday 2 August visitors can help Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Great Heath volunteers carry out a survey of all the wildlife to be found in the gardens.
From moths to bugs to birds to mice this event is part of The Great Heath partnership of voluntary organisations – local authorities, businesses and communities – working together to create a living landscape in which both people and wildlife can prosper. The event is suitable for all ages, beginners and experts alike, so anyone can come along and get involved.
The survey runs from 10am to 3pm and no pre-booking is required. Normal admission price will charged for entry and proceeds will be divided between DWT and the Knoll Gardens Foundation.
