Experience ‘the pet hen effect’
Did you know that pet chickens can make excellent pets? If you’ve ever thought about keeping chickens, head to this rehoming day.
If you’ve ever considered keeping hens, then this is your chance.
Hen owners will know that pet chickens can make great pets. They are curious as cats, loyal as dogs, give plenty of affection with the added bonus of supplying a steady stream of fresh eggs.
Each year, the British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT) saves around 50,000 hens from slaughter and rehomes them as family pets. Past adopters say their hens are loving, entertaining, and can have a calming effect too.
BHWT will be holding its next rehoming day on Saturday 14 May in Blandford Forum.
To adopt hens from the BHWT, you need to register your interest by Thursday 12 May. There is no set fee to adopt a hen, but the charity does ask for a donation to cover adoption costs and hen welfare campaigning work, such as veterinary and education programmes.
