This year’s Family Beach Festival saw hundreds of people flock to the sand to try out a range of sporting activities with ‘have a go’ sessions and demonstrations.
The festival, hosted in the prestigious Sand Polo Arena at Sandbanks, offered free access to over 20 different activities ranging from boxing and table tennis to football; it had it all.
Visitors to the event were wowed by the various demonstrations including England International, Matt Ware, demonstrating his prowess on the table tennis table. There was Zumba, martial arts and Bootcamp as well as sports such as frisbee, handball and even life saving. Tasters were open to all ages ensuring a fun day out for everyone, and to top it all there was a football tournament, run by Longfleet United Football Club, that saw 10 teams compete from as young as 10 years of age.
The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Ann Stribley, who attended the event, expressed her delight saying, “The Family Beach Festival has been a great success. Collaborating with the sand polo was a fantastic idea that allowed visitors to have a go at sports in a fun and safe site. It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved and enjoying themselves.”
Alongside the Mayor, representatives from the England Beach Soccer team handed out medals to those that had participated and they also donated a beach soccer ball for future team training.
