Police investigating an alleged fatal fail-to-stop collision in Boscombe are appealing for two potential witnesses to come forward.
At around 1.10am on Saturday 9 May, police were called to a serious injury road traffic collision in Christchurch Road between the junctions of Knyveton Road and Knole Road.
A 42-year-old woman, from Bournemouth, was struck by a white Peugeot 106. The car failed to stop at the scene and was found abandoned in Boscombe Overcliff Drive.
Sadly the woman died a short time later. Her family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. The coroner has been notified.
One man – aged 34 and from Bournemouth – arrested on suspicion of driving offences has been released without charge.
A second man, aged 25 and from Hertfordshire, was arrested on Saturday 9 May on the M3 on suspicion of driving offences.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “Following enquiries, we suspect two women may have been passengers in the white Peugeot 106 at the time of the collision or shortly after. I would urge these women to please come forward and speak to us as I believe they may have important information that could assist our investigation.
“I am appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Peugeot 106 in the Boscombe area on the evening of Friday 8 May before or after the collision to call 101 in confidence.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was in the Boscombe area between 1am and 1.30am on that day who may have CCTV fitted to their car, lorries or vans.”
