Police investigating an alleged fail-to-stop fatal collision in Boscombe are appealing for a number of potential witnesses to come forward. A third man has now been arrested.
At around 1.10am on Saturday 9 May 2015, police were called to a serious injury road traffic collision in Christchurch Road between the junctions of Knyveton Road and Knole Road.
A 42-year-old woman, from Bournemouth, was struck by a white Peugeot 106 with the registration X844LGD. The car failed to stop at the scene and was found abandoned a short time later in Boscombe Overcliff Drive.
Sadly the woman died a short time later. Her family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. The coroner has been notified.
A joint investigation has been launched by officers from Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit and Major Crime Investigation Team.
Officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of the car before or after the incident.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “We believe that following the collision two men, possibly connected with the incident, subsequently met three women in the area and took taxis to an address in the Boscombe pier area. Although these women were in no way involved in this incident, I would urge them to contact me in confidence as they may have vital information to help with the investigation.
“We also have received information that a taxi driver, unconnected with this group, drove past the scene towards Boscombe around the time of the collision. I am keen to speak to the driver of this taxi.
“I am also appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Peugeot 106 in the Boscombe area on the evening of Friday 8 May 2015 before or after the collision to call 101 in confidence.
“We are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the Boscombe area between 1am and 1.30am on that day who may have cameras fitted to their car, lorry or van.”
One man – aged 34 and from Bournemouth – arrested on suspicion of driving offences has been released without charge.
A second man – aged 25 and from Hertfordshire – was arrested on Saturday 9 May 2015 on the M3 on suspicion of driving offences. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
A third man – aged 23 and from Bournemouth – was arrested today, Monday 11 May 2015 at around 2pm in Bournemouth, in connection with this incident. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
