A man has been arrested after an elderly pedestrian died in a collision in Weymouth.
At approximately 5.05pm on Sunday 11 October 2015, an elderly man and his wife were crossing the B3159 Preston Beach Road when he was in collision with a yellow Suzuki motorcycle travelling north.
Sadly the pedestrian, a local man aged in his 80s, died at the scene. His wife was shocked but uninjured.
The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old man from Dorchester, was thrown from his bike and sustained two broken arms. He was taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.
Police Constable Andy Fields, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “We know immediately before the collision occurred the motorcyclist was riding with another motorcyclist travelling on a purple and black Honda bike.
“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to officers to please call Dorset Police on 101. The road was closed for some time to allow for a thorough investigation of the scene and I would like to thank motorists for their patience.”
A 31-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on police bail until mid-January 2016 pending further enquiries.
