Ferndown charity organises fly fishing event
Taking place at Holbury Lakes, near Romsey, a fly fishing event on 8 July will raise funds for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
If you enjoy fly fishing – or even if you’ve never tried it – you are invited to take part in an event to raise funds for a Ferndown charity.
The fourth John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation charity trout fly fishing event is booked for Saturday 8 July at Holbury Lakes near Romsey.
Ticket price is £80 for four fish which includes a donation to the charity and a day rod licence will be required. Tea and coffee will be served during the day and BBQ hot dogs will be provided at midday.
This event is open to all. There will be experienced anglers on hand who can give tuition on casting, fly fishing techniques and an understanding of the sport.
There will be a prize for the biggest fish and heaviest bag of fish. The same person can only win one prize.
This should be a very enjoyable and social occasion whilst catching some of the hard fighting blue, rainbow and brown trout that the fishery is well known for.
Fishing starts at 9am but people need to arrive from 8.30am to allow for tickets, tutor and tackle allocation and a safety briefing. Wellies, hat and sunglasses are advisable and participants should let the organisers know when booking if they are a novice requiring tackle and tuition.
People without a rod fishing licence, will need to make sure they have one before the event. It’s £6 for a ‘Non migratory trout and coarse licence’ which can be obtained from www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence. Bring it with you on the day.
