Ferndown Town Council to hold meeting over Lloyds Bank closure
The town council will hold an extraordinary meeting of the full council on Wednesday 12 February to address the proposed closure of Lloyds Bank.

Last week, it was revealed that the Lloyds Bank on Victoria Road, Ferndown, was set to close by November. This will leave the area without any of the ‘big four’ lenders: HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds or NatWest.
As a result, Ferndown Town Council has organised an extraordinary meeting of the full council to decide what to do about the situation.
During the meeting, councillors will discuss a motion proposed by Cllr Philip Leach that sets out what actions the council will take.
The motion will express the council’s “extreme disappointment” at the announcement by Lloyds Bank and highlights the concerns raised by residents at the loss of in-person banking, particularly of those who are or feel excluded when essential services are moved exclusively online or to call centres.
Cllr Leach proposes that maintaining access to easily withdraw cash and counter-based banking are essential services for local businesses, as well as residents, and that these services are essential to improving and regenerating Ferndown’s town centre.
The motion will commit the council to working with Dorset Council and other organisation to examine available options to preserve in-person banking services and access to cash in the town.
It will also commit the council to supporting a campaign to create a banking hub for the town – somewhere that offers counter-based banking and the opportunity to meet representatives from high street banks. Ferndown’s local Post Office has expressed interest in housing a banking hub, or Ferndown Town Council premises could be used to deliver this.
The full meeting of the council will take place on Wednesday 12 February at 5.30pm inside the Longham Room at The Barrington Centre on Pennys Walk. Members of the public are invited to attend.
