Ferndown travel operator nominated for top industry award
Coach company Heathside Travel, based in Ferndown, has made it to the finals for a prestigious industry award.
A coach travel company based in Ferndown has made it to the finals of the UK coach and bus industry’s premier award scheme.
Heathside Travel has been nominated for the Route One Award for Small Coach Operator of the Year, an accolade the Dorset company won in 2023. It is one of six nominees to make it to the final for this category.
Hannah Southby, owner of Heathside Travel, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be in the finals of this prestigious competition for the second year running, after winning the award last year.
“We are very proud of what we do, and it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team that we have been selected alongside the best in our industry. Thank you to all our wonderful staff and customers for their support this year – we couldn’t do it without you!”
The Route One Awards have been running since 2005 and recognises the operators and individuals who have driven innovation and success in the sector. The finalists for the 2024 awards were announced on Wednesday 14 August.
To be considered for a Route One Award, candidates must first be nominated by an industry peer. Nominees then submitted entries to demonstrated how they met the category criteria. The judging process involved a panel of industry experts who reviewed each entry to build a shortlist.
This year’s judges are: Joan Aitken OBE, former Traffic Commissioner for Scotland; David Cattermole, former Managing Director of Galloway Travel; Richard Delahoy, Transport Consultant; Nigel Eggleton, former Managing Director with First Bus South Yorkshire and Midlands; Mark Fowles OBE, former Managing Director of Nottingham City Transport; Graham Russell, former senior executive with FirstGroup; and Norman Thomas, former Engineering Product Manager for Volvo Bus.
Helen Conway, event director for the awards, said: “The Route One Awards stand as a beacon of recognition in the coach and bus industry. Each year, the calibre of entries surpasses expectations, reflecting the dynamic nature of the industry. The finalists announced represent the very best, and it is an honour to recognise their achievements.”
The winners will be unveiled at an event in Birmingham on 13 November 2024.
