Ferndown youngster embarks on journey to Cirque du Soleil, Montreal
10-year-old Ferndown girl, Ariya Jackson, with a passion for circus and ballet, has garnered some remarkable achievements.
In pursuit of her dream to grace the stage of Cirque du Soleil, Ariya has secured a coveted spot in the summer intensive training programme at École Nationale de Cirque in Montreal. This achievement is in addition to winning the South-West division of the UK Aerial Championship in 2023 and earning scholarships from prestigious ballet and circus institutions.
École Nationale de Cirque, Montreal is renowned for its world-class circus facilities. Her visit is scheduled for July 2024, and will mark a pivotal step in Ariya’s journey.
Montreal promises an immersive experience, offering new heights in circus arts that will bolster Ariya’s confidence and help shape her future. Under the guidance of seasoned instructors and alongside peers who share her passion for the performing arts, Ariya aims to refine her skills and enhance her prospects for future scholarship schemes.
To support Ariya’s journey, her family invites the community to a special fundraising event featuring a mini performance crafted entirely by Ariya and her sister Imogen. Taking place on 24 May in Southbourne, the event promises an evening of joy, creativity, and entertainment, complete with stalls, snacks, and games.
Following the event, Ariya and Imogen (aged 7) plan to take their mini show on the road in June, spreading circus joy to residents of local care homes.
Reflecting on Ariya’s journey, her mother, Jayne, expressed immense pride in Ariya’s perseverance and determination, despite facing challenges such as two broken arms and a neck injury (not acquired through circus). She thanked Ariya’s supporters, including coaches and teachers, with special gratitude to Gemma Mawson of Gems Circus Arts for her empowering guidance.
Professional circus coach Gemma commended Ariya’s commitment saying: “Ariya’s admission to the Montreal Circus summer school speaks volumes about her unwavering dedication, passion, and exceptional talent in aerial arts. A regular participant in our weekly aerial training sessions in Southbourne, she stands as a shining example of a model circus student. Her graceful movements, physical prowess, and fearless spirit are truly inspirational. This is an exceptional training opportunity, for an exceptional little girl.”
