Ferndown Upper School’s first Film Festival event was a real success.
Students from Years 12 and 13, and from the A Level Media Studies and BTEC in Creative Media Production courses, were involved.
Students and staff nominated films for a range of nine categories, from Best Thriller Opening and Best Music Video, to Best Actor and Best Director. These nominations were viewed by a panel of judges comprising Ms Annie East from Bournemouth University Media School, Mr Gerry Clarke – a member of Ferndown Rotary who has worked in the media industry for many years, Mrs Hosey, Head of Media Studies, Mr Redwood, Head of Sixth Form and Miss O’Connor, Head of Drama and the winners were announced on the night.
The ceremony was professionally run by a slick compere team including Steph Hazell and Brad Hall, Year 13 A Level Media students and Sam Harvell and Dan Jones, Year 12 BTEC Media students, who did introduced each category and the nominations. Prizes were awarded to the winners by Gerry Clarke and Dr Christa Van Raalte, Head of Department for Media Production, Bournemouth University Media School.
Responses to the event were overwhelmingly positive. Gerry Clarke commented, “The quality of the film entries was outstanding” and there was “excellent scripting, photography, acting and post production all round.”
Mrs Hosey said, “The students were buzzing – it was a real pleasure to celebrate their hard work and amazing achievements in such a positive way. They did themselves proud and are a real credit to themselves and the school.”
