Following the Verwood Rustic Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday with a flypast by a Hurricane and a Spitfire that turned heads skywards, plus the Bournemouth air festival about to be unleashed this weekend, (29 August–1 September), the interest in aircraft in the area is running pretty high.
But, did you know that the skies over the New Forest were busy with aircraft during World War Two and that there were many airfields close to Ringwood and Fordingbridge? Would you like to find out more about what is left of these once thriving sites?
If so, there is currently a fascinating display at Ringwood Library of books by local authors, maps, cuttings and ground plans featuring the airfields as they were then and now.
The library is located behind Greyfriars Community Centre on Christchurch Road with a free customer car park.
