Fire in roof of Bournemouth block of flats
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue have been tackling a roof fire in a block of flats on Poole Road, Bournemouth this morning.
Fire crews were called out this morning (16 December) after fire broke out in the roof of a block of flats in Bournemouth just after 7am.
Residents were evacuated from the affected part of the building, with 21 rescued by firefighters. Three people suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by South Western Ambulance Service.
Around 60 firefighters attended the fire, including crews from Westbourne, Springbourne, Redhill Park, Christchurch, Poole, Ferndown and Wimborne. They were supported by crews Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service crews from Ringwood, New Milton and Burley.
Also in attendance was the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne, support appliances from Hamworthy and Dorchester, and a water carrier from Poole.
Displaced residents were provided shelter at the nearby Premier Inn and BCP Council officers are on hand to offer any support needed.
The fire has been contained although operations are likely to continue for much of the day, with road closures in place until it is safe to reopen them.
There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances behind the fire.
