Ringwood Floral Decoration Society spent an afternoon watching Emily Gordon-Broomhead work and weave her magic with beautiful flowers, foliage and ‘Sticks and Stems’.
She started with ‘Easter Treat’ – a compilation of spring flowers placed in a willow basket with pussy willow and, hidden in the foliage – Easter eggs. Then an all yellow arrangement of sunflowers, narcissi, tulips and genista woven into a dogwood frame. Flowers in red and pink shades followed in a geometric design, after which a very large terracotta pot appeared. When she had finished, this was surmounted by orange and rust gerbera, tulips, roses, genista and hypericum berries. The final arrangements were two entirely matching green displays of various exotic leaves, chrysanthemums, carnations and a huge orchid.
Emily regaled everyone with anecdotes of her family life (she comes from a dynasty of flower arrangers) and left members wondering how she could possibly manage all that she does while recently having had a baby.
Ringwood Floral Decoration Society’s next meeting is on Thursday, 25 April, which will be a demonstration by Mr Nicky Heal entitled ‘Weaving and Winding Wonder’. New members and visitors are welcome at Greyfriars Hall at 2.15pm.
