Fordingbridge nine-year-old raises £1,200 for care home
Alfie Jones from Fordingbridge raised the money by running the 2.5k Junior Great South Run on Saturday 18 October.
A young lad from Fordingbridge has raised a huge sum of money for the benefit of a local care home where his relatives live.
After visiting his two great-grandparents at Ringwood’s Bickerley Green Residential and Nursing Home, nine-year-old Alfie Jones was keen to make a difference and help the residents enjoy life to the full.
His first gesture of generosity was to donate his pocket money to help support and care for Bickerley Green’s care-home cat, Flint, an extremely popular and much-loved member of the team.
Alfie then decided to enter the Junior Great South Run, not only to improve his running skills but also to raise money for the residents at Bickerley Green.
Thanks to the support of friends and family, Alfie completed the 2.5k run in 17 minutes on Saturday 18 October. In the process, he raised over £1,200 for the care home.
Alfie’s mum, Sherri, said: “I’m so proud of Alfie for committing himself to raising all that money and complete the Junior Great South Run, knowing that the money raised will make the residents’ lives so much happier and more enjoyable.”
Alfie said: “I can’t believe I raised that much money! I love visiting Bickerley Green and seeing everyone. I hated running before but now I actually quite like it.”
Care home manager Tracy Flint said Alfie’s kindness will make a huge difference to all the residents at Bickerley Green. She added: “What Alfie has done, by raising all that money, will make such a difference, enabling our residents to enjoy a trip out in a minibus to places that they will enjoy. It has been truly overwhelming to have this support from Alfie and all his many supporters.”
