Former fighter pilot celebrates 100th birthday in Bournemouth
Bournemouth care home resident Harold Fairclough celebrated his birthday with family who flew in from New York.

A former fighter pilot and current resident of Colten Care’s Bourne View home in Bournemouth has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Staff treated Harold Fairclough to a huge party to celebrate the milestone. The centenarian was also delighted when his daughter and two granddaughters arrived unannounced from New York.
Fairclough, who was also a former government advisor, received a birthday card from the king and enjoyed some champagne.
Home manager Jacky Sylveter said: “Harold is a beloved resident, and he is private and modest gentleman.
“He allowed us to have a party for him, joking that after years of planning events in his career, he was happy to enjoy one without doing the work.
“The day was filled with surprises, starting with a royal birthday card from the King, then visits, calls, and well-wishes from friends, family and staff.
“A particularly touching moment came when Harold’s daughter Debbie and two granddaughters flew in from New York as a surprise, bringing tears of joy to the celebration.
“We had live guitar music and a heartfelt ‘Happy Birthday’ chorus. The festivities continued with a touching ‘This is Your Life’ tribute and moving memories shared by Harold’s granddaughter.
“The party included a beautifully decorated room, cream tea, and a special birthday cake.”
