A successful event held in Wimborne’s minster church on Saturday (23 January) raised around £800 for its funds. The brainchild of Barry Glazier, chairman of the minster’s fundraising and events committee, the Minster Tales told of some of its history through the mouths of actors. Characters included Cuthburga, founder of the ancient abbey, Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry V11, Isaac Gulliver the famous smuggler, Anthony Ettricke the barrister and recorder of Poole, the carpenter and the stonemason who built the minster and have helped keep it in order.
Over 100 people from near and far moved around the minster meeting the actors in six different groups. To conclude, Sean Tucker, organist at the minster told of the origins of the organ and played a short interlude.
The rector, Canon Vanessa Herrick thanked the actors and all who turned out on a far from pleasant January evening. Wine and a buffet followed.
The next event planned by the committee is an Auction of Promises at Queen Elizabeth’s School on Friday 6 May.
