Further Dorset tributes to late Queen
Tributes to HM The Queen, who died last Thursday, are continuing to arrive, as the county tries to come to terms with the loss.
Tributes to HM The Queen have continued to pour into Dorset View.
A statement from Dorset Community Foundation chairman Tom Flood and director Grant Robson reads:
“We join with the people of Dorset to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our longest reigning monarch and head of state.
“For 70 years she was a shining example to all of us and an enduring inspiration to those who put their communities first. We, like all of our partner organisations, fellow community foundations and the countless voluntary sector workers and volunteers who followed the example she set, pay tribute to her loyalty, devotion and ever-present sense of calm and grace.
“Every day we see in Dorset the embodiment of her values – the quiet, caring commitment to service of others – among the wonderful grass roots groups and charities who work so hard to make life better in our communities. We know that through that work and commitment her legacy will continue.
“Just a few months ago, we were so proud to be able to distribute £112,000 from Arts Council England and Superior Seals in Poole to help those communities celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee through arts events all over the county.
“Our thoughts are with the Royal family, particularly our new King, Charles III, as he prepares to follow the 1,000-year-old tradition and take up the crown, as they grieve for a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
“This county will never have another figurehead, ambassador or guiding light like her.”
The Queen visited QE School in Wimborne in 2008 to mark 500 years of free education in Wimborne and the headteacher Katie Boyes said: “It is with great sadness that we join together with the nation and the world in mourning the death of The Queen, someone who is deeply rooted in the history of our school. As a school we have taken time to remember and reflect. King Charles and the Royal family are in all of our thoughts and prayers.”
A statement from the United Grand Lodge of England read:
“It was with the greatest sadness that the United Grand Lodge of England learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our longest serving British Sovereign.
Queen Elizabeth’s father, His late Majesty King George VI and her consort, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, were both Freemasons. Her cousin, HRH The Duke of Kent, has been Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England since 1967, and will be sending a message of condolence on behalf of all English Freemasons to His Majesty The King. Another of her cousins, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, has been Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales since 1982, and an announcement is being made from Mark Masons’ Hall.”
