Gerry Robinson prepares for 20th Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride

Gerry Robinson is preparing to take part in his 20th Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride on Sunday 2 July. Gerry who is now in his 84th year is currently the most senior rider taking part in the annual event, and being born in early July this often means he takes part on his birthday. Over the year’s Gerry has cycled a number of different distances including 75km on his 75 birthday. In 19 years Gerry has raised over £13,177 for Macmillan through the event, and in 2016 he was the top fundraiser, raising £1,020

Gerry who has received treatment for cancer himself said, “I use the annual ride as a marker in my year. It keeps me positive. Also, we’ve lost so many friends over the years who have been helped by Macmillan that I must make the effort. However, each year gets harder and Peter still leaves all the hills in the course! I couldn’t do it without the help of my supportive friends.”,

Ride organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said, “It’s fantastic Gerry keeps coming back and supporting Macmillan in such a big way. This event has been going for 29 years now and we really do appreciate the dedication of all those riders who come back year after year and help keep the ride going.”

The Ride starts at Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground on Sunday 2 July. All the usual distances are included in this year’s event; 10, 25, 38, 48, 60 and the challenging 100 miles.
