Employees from across Borough of Poole will be getting on their bikes this month as part of the Momentum Cycle Challenge 2014. Council staff will be competing against other businesses in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, to see who can get the highest number of people cycling for at least 10 minutes.
Now in its second year, the Challenge takes place between Monday 8 and Sunday 28 September 2014, during which time all rides will be logged on the Momentum Cycle Challenge website, www.lovetoride.net/momentum. Companies from across Poole are encouraged to join in the two-wheeled fun, with prizes and incentives for teams and individuals available.
Poole cyclists are also invited to attend the Momentum Cycle Challenge roadshow, taking place by the cricket pavilion in Poole Park between 11am and 5pm on Wednesday 17 September. Visitors to the event will be able to have a go on a range of unusual bikes, including penny farthings, kmx carts, tandems and unicycles. Staff from Primera Sports will be bringing a range of their latest bikes along, and Borough of Poole transportation staff will have information on cycle routes and training on offer.
And if your bike has seen better days, the Dr Bike service will be offering free tune-ups and advice on major repairs, to make sure everyone has a bike that’s safe and roadworthy.
Cllr Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: “I would encourage staff in businesses across Poole to get involved with the Momentum Cycle Challenge. I’m looking forward to seeing how Borough of Poole staff compare to others in the area when it comes to getting on their bikes. If you are unsure about cycling the Poole Park roadshow is a great opportunity to find out more, so please come along.”
