Get into the spirit of Christmas with this free concert
There will be a festive evening of music, fun, mince pies and refreshments at the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown on 23 December.
Starting at 7pm on 23 December, the concert is a free event, where everyone is welcome and there is no booking required. The evening is being hosted by Sunnyhill Church and their Christmas Community Choir.
The Community Choir has slowly but surely been developing in anticipation of Christmas celebrations. Danny of the Barrington Centre got together with choir director, Adam Bird, to ask some questions about the concert:
Danny: So Adam, what’s the choir all about and why is it ‘contemporary’?
Adam: Everyone loves to sing at Christmas, right? And, the traditional carols are firm favourites from childhood. This choir takes the much-loved carols and brings a modern twist. It means that our carol services in December will be a fresh, fun experience without losing out on tradition.
Danny: So how have rehearsals been going?
Adam: It’s truly fantastic when people make a great sound together, and the beauty of this choir is that it’s my job to make them sound great. It’s the singers’ job to bring enthusiasm to rehearsals and performances, and they are bringing it in bucket-loads!
Danny: Why the Barrington?
Adam: Well, the Barrington has been involved in community care and action for a long time. As a leader within Sunnyhill church, I’m part of a team who care about people getting together and enjoying life, so that’s something we share with the Barrington.
Danny: Can anyone come to the carol services?
Adam: Yes, this is what a Community Carol Service is all about. All are welcome. There is no charge and no booking necessary. Come alone or with friends and family to celebrate Christmas with us. You can join in and sing or just come to listen.
Danny: Any last words?
Adam: Yes. ‘Come!’ The music is going to be amazing. The choir sounds fantastic. We’ve got some spectacular multimedia and it’s sure to be a fun, enjoyable evening. It’s going to be great!
There will be similar events at Magna Academy, Ashdown Close, Poole on 22 December at 7pm and also at Sunnyhill Church, Wareham Road, Corfe Mullen on 24 December at 4pm.
