Girls Golf Rocks on tour in Dorset!
The campaign to attract more girl golfers, Girls Golf Rocks, has been hugely successful since it started in Dorset in 2016 and is back this year and to take new golfers on a playing Tour.
As well as offering tasters and coaching programmes, Girls Golf Rocks will be offering a series of playing opportunities to encourage new girl golfers to get out on the course and make new friends – on Tour.
The events are open to all girl golfers across the county, whether or not they’ve been involved with Girls Golf Rocks.
This year’s free taster sessions will be held at four clubs, (see below), each will also offer follow-on coaching courses with PGA professionals.
Sturminster Marshall Golf Club, 13 April 5-7pm.
Broadstone Golf Club, 14 April 1-3pm.
Dudsbury Golf Club and Hotel, 21 April 3-5pm.
Ferndown Golf Club 24 April 5-7pm.
The new girl players will be supported at the tasters and on tour by ambassadors from the Cheshire girls’ squad, whose encouragement has helped to make Girls Golf Rocks such a success.
They include Becky Dodd, 17, from Sturminster Marshall Golf Club, who said, “I really enjoyed getting to know all the girls and seeing them grow throughout the Girls Golf Rocks programme. Assisting a professional coach who has helped bring so many young girls into golf over the years was an amazing opportunity and I am glad to be part of the team.”
Girls Golf Rocks is run by England Golf and the Golf Foundation in 21 counties, with US Kids providing 7-irons for the girls to use. It aims to increase the number of girl golfers from an average of just two full members per club.
When Girls Golf Rocks ran in 15 counties last year over 850 girls had a go and more than 730 went on to take coaching courses.
