Wimborne Town notched up their fifth successive victory this weekend, with a tense one-nil away win to a resurgent AFC Totton side. The Magpies dominated the opening quarter of an hour, and Mark Gamble finished off a well-worked move to put Wimborne ahead after just eight minutes. Totton responded however, and the Magpies had to withstand long spells of pressure during the remainder of the game. Goalkeeper Jason Harvell showed his full range of talents, despite terrible conditions, and his man of the match performance enabled the Magpies to see the game out.
Next up for Wimborne will be the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy, at home to Northwood FC on Saturday 15 November (kick off 3pm). With £3,250 pounds and a place in the final qualifying round at stake, the Magpies will be looking to keep their excellent run of form going.
In other news Wimborne Town FC will be participating in Football Remembers Week in early December. This event aims to commemorate the Christmas truce in World War One, where soldiers of both sides laid down their weapons and played football 100 years ago this Christmas. Teams will be taking pre-match pictures with their opponents, and uploading them to social media to create a permanent record as a mark of respect for their counterparts a century ago.
Finally, Wimborne Town’s newly refurbished function room, 1878, will be officially launched on 21 November from 7:30pm, with a very special guest in attendance to do the honours.
