Dorset’s largest golf complex, the Canford Magna Golf Club and Academy, is on course for further investment.
In the last three years over £250,000 has been spent on enhancing the three courses and club facilities, including a major refurbishment of the restaurant enjoyed by visitors and the 1000 strong membership. Stuart Hudson, Managing Director who manages the 45 hole, 350 acre complex near Wimborne, says that with a steady membership, who enjoy playing all year round thanks to the choice of courses, and the popular weekend Canford Kids Academy, the club is in a fortunate position to continue to re-invest up to £100,000.
“No one can deny that both the economic and environmental climate has severely damaged the expansion of golfing in the UK. We have weathered the storm well, or should I say storms, and are now budgeting to purchase extra machinery, including the latest Top Dresser, to help keep our greens in great condition. We won’t let our high standards slip.”
He says that there is much focus on keeping a friendly feel to the club: “We have over 50 staff: there cannot be many clubs that have five pros, five chefs as well as 12 green keeping staff! I feel investment is the only way forward.”
