Borough of Poole has welcomed the Government’s decision to provide further support for those people affected by flooding.
The Government has announced how the four schemes, aimed at helping both businesses and households that have been flooded, will work. Borough of Poole is keen to make this information available to local people so that they can start to get the help they need as soon as possible.
The schemes are:
- The 100% business rate relief scheme will allow those businesses that have been flooded to qualify for 100% relief for three months, regardless of how long they have been flooded.
- The council tax exemption scheme will allow a council tax rebate to those whose homes have been flooded, with the level of rebate being at least three months.
- £5,000 flood resilience grants. This scheme will provide grants of up to £5,000 to improve a property’s resistance to flooding which has been identified through a professional survey. This money does not cover repairs to a property which should be covered through an insurance policy. This scheme will be available from 1 April.
- Business support scheme will provide emergency funding and support to businesses in flood affected areas. It will support businesses that have been flooded and those that have been indirectly affected with a significant loss of trade.
John McBride, Chief Executive, Borough of Poole, said: “Being flooded can have a huge impact on people both emotionally and financially. We are keen to ensure that all households and businesses in Poole, which have affected during recent storms, are aware of this additional support and how to access it.
“Although we are still waiting for the Government to provide full details, we would encourage businesses and residents to contact us as soon as possible to see how the schemes could help them.”
