As part of the ‘Litter Free Coast and Sea’ campaign, Durlston Country Park Rangers are asking people to help clean Swanage beach on 22 April in the Great Dorset Beach Clean 2017.
Durlston Country Park Rangers are asking appealing for help to clean Swanage beach on 22 April as part of the Great Dorset Beach Clean 2017 and the ‘Litter Free Coast and Sea’ campaign.
Last year over 30 volunteers collected 28 sacks of rubbish in Swanage, weighing a substantial 122kg.
This event aims to keep beaches tidy, improving the shore and marine environments for the enjoyment of local residents, visitors and wildlife. It is a great opportunity to take pride in your local area whilst learning about the waste on our shores and where it comes from.
“We all enjoy Swanage beach and are likely less appreciative when a rough tide covers the shore in litter. Yet many of us play little role in cleaning up the rubbish: imagine if everyone who uses the beach picked up just one piece of litter – we’d have a clean beach in no time at all. This is your opportunity to get together as a group and do your bit to help,” said Ben Tolley, a countryside ranger at Durlston
If you want to take part, meet outside the Bull & Boat restaurant at 10am on 22 April. Bags and gloves will be provided. With the walk taking about an hour, volunteers can come and go as they please. This event is free and everybody is welcome to get involved. So bring along your friends and family and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Swanage bay whilst doing your bit for the environment.
