Companies across Dorset are pledging support for the Great South West Walk taking place this spring with some businesses offering special incentives for people who sign up now to join the walk. Others are sponsoring legs of the walk as it passes through Dorset.
Parkdean Holidays and Golden Cap Holiday Park are entering teams to raise sponsorship, whilst other tourism businesses are helping to promote the event.
Jonathan Dimbleby will be walking a leg in Devon on Tuesday 16 April. He is patron of the South Devon AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and said, “I am pleased to join in the walk to raise awareness of the campaign and to raise funds for the path to be given some much needed care.”
The South West Coast Path Association is organising the walk to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The Great South West Walk will take place in April and May with a relay of 56 sponsored walks to cover the whole 630 mile path around Dorset, Devon and Cornwall as well as the Exmoor coast through Somerset.
Walkers joining the anniversary event will be asked to try to raise sponsorship, with every pound making a difference, so that further funding can be levered from relevant organisations via matched giving.
Registration is now open, with a deadline of 4 March, but those registering now will receive a special thank you.
