Bournemouth airport based Airways Aviation has launched a new facility where trainee commercial helicopter and fixed wing (aeroplane) pilots can be tutored on the ground school subjects required to gain their Air Transport Pilots licences. Ian Brookes, from Bournemouth who gained his fixed wing and helicopter commercial pilots licences in 2012 has been appointed to head the ground training in the new facilities which include a lecture room and study areas.
The first students to use the building are future cadets and are undertaking an introductory course in Bournemouth. Students may also start their flight training for commercial or private pilots licences during this time and take a special eight week foundation course created by Airways Aviation.
Ollie Pennington, Managing Director of Airways Aviation UK, says that they are delighted to have the new ground school facility in place: “With Ian leading the curriculum and support from trainers at our sister company Atlantic Air Training at Coventry, we can play an important role for anyone aspiring to become a commercial airline pilot.”
The Airways Aviation group is a rapidly expanding flight training organisation. £25millon will be invested for the first phase of the group’s worldwide training facilities. The group’s aim is to provide a high standard of advice to anyone wishing to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. Airways Aviation has flight training and ground school centres at Coventry and Bournemouth in the UK, Academies on Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, Podgorica in Montenegro and Jordan. Ground school training has also been lunched in Dubai, Beirut and Kuala Lumpur.
