Guests of exceptional Bournemouth cancer hotel share stories for World Cancer Day
To mark World Cancer Day 2107, those with cancer along with friends and family have shared their experiences of The Grove Hotel in Bournemouth, which exclusively caters for their needs.
Run by the charity Macmillan Caring Locally, the hotel is the first not-for-profit establishment of its kind and has created countless memories by offering cancer sufferers, their family and carers, a beautiful holiday retreat.
World Cancer Day takes place every year on 4 February and aims to spread awareness and support for those battling the disease.
Ahead of the day, guests of the hotel have shared their stories.
Speaking of her experience on TripAdvisor, Sandy said, “This hotel is extra special for anyone suffering or recovering from cancer. The staff are so welcoming and caring. They make time for each individual and you have the reassurance of nurse availability should you need it. I spent a week here after completing my treatment and feel re-energised and ready to move forwards with my life.’’
Nikki, another guest of The Grove, said, “Me and my mum came to stay for two nights. Our room was beautiful and being in a disability-friendly room meant my mum was just as comfortable as she is at home. Mum also gained the confidence to go out on a mobility scooter to make the most of the seafront nearby. On the two nights we stayed, there was entertainment which is very relaxed and a nice chance to socialise. Two further visits have now been booked and Mum is looking forward to going back to The Grove.”
Hotel manager Brenden Howard, said, “It’s always nice to hear that whilst experiencing cancer our guests can have a much needed and relaxed holiday. Sharing some of their lovely memories on World Cancer Day is a great way to show everyone that despite being diagnosed with cancer, people can find enjoyment in life.’
Located on Bournemouth East Cliff, The Grove has won numerous awards in the last year.
