Bournemouth’s own Guggenmusik band, Gugge 2000, are hosting an evening of colourful and lively Guggenmusik on Saturday 11 July at The Life Centre in Winton.
The Big F will include bands from Austria, France, Germany and three bands from the UK, including The Meridian Corps of Drums youth marching band.
Although the event starts at 5pm, visitors can come and go as they like until late. Ticket holders or those wanting the last few tickets on the door can turn up at any time. Pop in, pop out, spend time in the concert hall, in the bar, have something to eat and then pop back into the hall or take a relaxing seat in the circle.
Band member Clare Foss-Smith said, “With six different bands playing throughout the evening you can come and go as you please but we think you’ll just want to stay!
“Choose how you want to listen – get up close and personal, dance to the music or sit in the balcony area – there is plenty of room for adults and kids as well as food and drink available all evening. “.
Guggenmusik translates as happy music and certainly seems to bring the best out of both those who perform it and those who are entertained by it. The bands are generally about 40 strong and combine large percussion sections of bass drums and trolley mounted kit drums with even larger brass sections of trumpets, trombones, euphoniums and sousaphones. You will hear brass and percussion as you’ve never heard it before.
The music and the performances are as much about visual impact as they are about the sound. During the evening, the bands will be including music from Abba, The Beatles, Elbow, Lady Gaga, Queen, Neil Diamond, Robbie Williams and lots more. This will be a wonderful fun event for all ages. The first thing that catches the eye is the colourful costumes influenced by the traditions of carnival.
Originally associated with winter carnivals in Europe, as Guggenmusik has evolved it has taken on its own life and has become a focal point of carnivals with bands taking centre stage and performing well polished and interactive performances for their audiences. Guggenmusik bands perform with a great deal of passion, enthusiasm, rhythm and colour and interact strongly with their audiences.
