Mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May with a special Hattie Miles walkingtalk that explores Bournemouth’s role in World War II and the jubilant celebrations that took place in the town when Victory in Europe was declared in May 1945.
This guided walk is led by photographer, teacher and social historian Hattie Miles and starts outside the Tourist Information office in Westover Road at 2pm sharp. It takes approximately one-and-three-quarter-hours and will include a stop to observe the National two minutes silence at 3pm.
It is one of a series of walkingtalks that look at Bournemouth in the Second World War – how the town was crucial to the D-Day preparations, how it became a temporary home to thousands of American and Canadian troops and how it was effected by some devastating bombing raids.
