Football manager Harry Redknapp took time out from coaching duties at promotion-chasing Championship club QPR, to launch a 5-A-Side World Cup Tournament charity fundraiser, organised by local estate agent Leader & Co in aid of Lewis-Manning Hospice.
The tournament is the brainchild of Ryan Woolfenden, owner of independent estate agents Leader & Co in Ashley Cross, and he has teamed up with Lewis-Manning to host the event at Bournemouth’s Pelhams Park on 1 June 1 from 10am–2pm. The tournament is open to teams of all ages and will replicate the fixtures of the actual World Cup taking place in Brazil in June, with each team representing a country pulled out of a hat.
Ryan said, “Having been given a tour of Lewis-Manning not so long ago, I was extremely keen to help, having seen first hand the excellent care they provide. Being an avid football fan and with the World Cup looming, this seemed like a great way of creating a fun day for people to participate in and also raise some money for a very worthwhile cause.”
Harry Redknapp said, “I’m pleased to have been asked to help launch this charity 5-A-Side World Cup 2014 Tournament to raise funds for Lewis-Manning Hospice. I would encourage any local teams to get involved and give it a go. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy some grass-roots football while supporting this very worthwhile cause. Thanks to estate agents Leader & Co. for organising the event and putting such an effort in to follow the format of this year’s World Cup. It’s going to be a great day of football for all ages.”
Anyone interested in entering a team should contact Ryan ryan@leaderandco.com or call 01202 721999. Cost is £50 per team to enter, with all proceeds going to Lewis-Manning Hospice.
