Harry Redknapp opens new supporters’ stand at Holt United FC
Local football legend, Harry Redknapp, made a special appearance at Holt United Football Club to officially open a new supporters’ stand on 13 July.
A grand celebration, hosted by the club, which is based at Gaunts Common, Wimborne, saw Harry Redknapp cut the ribbon to officially open a new supporters’ stand sponsored by Pennyfarthing Homes.
The former Premier League manager and current football pundit, Harry Redknapp said: “I am a huge supporter of local football and it is a pleasure to be here today to mark the opening of this new stand.
“Football clubs like these could not survive and thrive without the support of companies like Pennyfarthing Homes and I give them full credit for funding and building this with Brooklyn Homes for Holt United.”
Following the ribbon cutting, the adult men’s team competed against their local rivals from Bashley ending in a 2-2 draw.
Holt United FC is one of Dorset’s premier clubs, formed in 1966 – a landmark year for football in the UK. The club has grown to 21 thriving youth teams, coaching boys and girls from as young as five. Holt also provides football training and summer camps run by Darryl Squires and Tony Stuart.
“The new Terry Bradford stand is beyond our expectations,” said Lee Bradford. “My father started Holt United with a lawnmower and a hosepipe as a shower so we can see what a long way the club has come over the past 58 years.”
He added: “On behalf of the entire club, I extend a huge thank you to Harry for giving up his precious time on a Saturday to come and be with us today – especially as it is the day before the Euros final.”
Mark Adams, executive chairman of Pennyfarthing Homes said: “Today has been a pleasure on so many counts. Adding social value to our local community is a passion for us at Pennyfarthing Homes, but we don’t often get to celebrate it with such a notable public figure. I’d like to thank Harry for joining us and officially opening this stand, which we hope will add great value to the club.”
The new facility will provide shelter for fans all year round.
