PEDAL POWER 2014
Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s cycling event Pedal Power returns to the New Forest on Sunday 27 September to raise money for an electrocardiograph (ECG) machine for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s Heart Unit.
The cycling event saw 170 cyclists raise more than £5,000 last year and is back for a second year, offering a choice of a 10km, 50km or 100km route down country roads and through picturesque New Forest villages.
Money raised will fund a much-needed replacement of an ECG machine. ECGs play an essential role in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and around 50,000 ECGs are carried out in the Heart Unit each year.
Dr Adrian Rozkovec, Consultant Cardiologist on the Heart Unit, said: “Our Heart Unit provides specialist cardiac services for around one million people. Ultimately the ECG machine that we’re fundraising for will help us to save lives – what better reason is there for signing up?
“Some of the staff from the unit will be taking part and I will be taking on the 50km distance. I did it last year and really enjoyed it.”
Starting and finishing at the White Buck Inn, Burley, Pedal Power is a perfect way to get active while raising money for an important cause.
