Homeless people volunteer to cook Christmas feast in Bournemouth
Bee Mission is hosting a very special Christmas lunch on Sunday 3 December in Bournemouth cooked by the people experiencing homelessness.
Led by Bee Mission’s Amy Foster and Jenny Newman, the pair will be working with a team of people experiencing homelessness who are coming together to help prepare, cook, and serve a Christmas feast for 100 guests at The Garden Rooms Café on Haviland Road, Boscombe. The event will raise funds for people living on the streets this Christmas.
Bee Mission, is a Community Interest Company (CIC) on a mission to save the bees and support people experiencing homelessness.
For the past four years, three times a week, every week, Amy Foster cooks meals from her kitchen at home for up to 60 people and then with the help from additional volunteers, goes into Bournemouth town centre and delivers the meals at three drop off points.
Amy comments: “We really wanted to bring the two sides of Bee Mission together with this lunch. Our mission is not only to feed people, but also to upskill and support where we can. There’s some wonderful guys we see out every week who are so keen to come and help us, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.”
Tickets to the three-course Bee Mission Christmas Lunch are £20 including live entertainment, a raffle, and a chance to pick up some Bee Mission goodies with all profits going back into providing people experiencing homeless a full Christmas dinner with pudding, and mince pies.
The Bee Mission team have asked people coming to the lunch to also bring a small present if they can, from hats and gloves, to warm socks, toiletries, or chocolate.
“We’re hoping to deliver a bit of Christmas cheer this year,” Amy explains, “with a hearty meal and hopefully some gifts too, we hope that everyone can find a moment of happiness, whatever their situation is.”
The event will be raising funds for the people living on the streets this Christmas.
