‘Chilled-out’ residents at an East Dorset care home relived their childhood with a visit from a traditional ice cream van.
Family business Jim’s Superwhip set up outside Colten Care’s Fernhill dementia home in Longham as part of a reminiscence project.
As the van’s chimes rang out across Fernhill, residents were invited to recollect early memories of enjoying a traditional ice cream.
Ann Marie Knight, Activity Organiser, said, “It’s all about remembering times and events from when our residents were younger.
“From hearing the musical chimes to the physical act of handing over the money, the visit succeeded in its aim of unlocking childhood memories.
“The idea is likely to be taken up by other Colten Care homes specialising in dementia care.”
Jim’s Superwhip was founded nearly 40 years ago and has five vans and two trailers.
The business, owned by Jim Lewis, operates across Dorset and Hampshire.
