The prestigious Britten Sinfonia is to perform at Canford School on 21 January with the concert open to everyone. The ensemble will present a concert of chamber music from their ‘At Lunch’ series, first given earlier in the month in London’s Wigmore Hall.
Four principal string players from this leading chamber orchestra are being joined by renowned soprano Julia Doyle and Marios Argiros (oboe) and will perform arias from two Bach Cantatas (Gott versorget alles Leben and Seufzer, Tranen, Kummer, Not), as well as music by Scarlatti, Arvo Pärt and Ligeti. An exciting new work by composer Anna Clyne, This Lunar Beauty, completes the programme. This is the second year, Canford has welcome the Britten Sinfonia to the school and during the week of this concert, the musicians will be in residence in the school working with pupils in both composing and performing masterclasses and workshops.
Director of Music, Christopher Sparkhall, said: “We are extremely lucky to have such excellent and accomplished musicians visiting and working with us for the week. Last year’s public concert was an exceptional occasion, and this year’s promises to be every bit as good.”
The workshops and masterclasses are being generously supported by an Old Canfordian.
The chamber orchestra will be performing at 7.30pm in the concert hall. Tickets are £14 or £10, and are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/canfordmusic or by phone on 01202 847486.
