Jake Cross 8, from Ferndown has won the Ferndown In Bloom poster competition in which there were over 300 entries from pupils from the areas’ first and junior schools. Jane Glover, Ferndown In Bloom’s schools liaison volunteer and Matt Hill, general manager of Haskins Garden Centre, presented the Haskins £100 gift card prize to Jake and environment/science coordinator Varsha Roche at Parley First School.
Jane said that Jake’s entry was judged by the committee as the best poster as it followed most of the criteria in the rules and, above all, looked brilliant and colourful. It took over two hours for Jake to design and create and he hopes that his parents will be inspired by the poster to enter their garden into the town’s competition.
They, and other Ferndown residents within the BH22 postcode, still have time to complete an entry form (downloadable from www.haskins.co.uk or collectable from the centre) as the closing date is 6 July.
The photographic competition and tallest sunflower competitions have the closing date of 31 August. Over £500 worth of prizes will be presented to category winners at the presentation ceremony to be hosted by Haskins on Wednesday, 23 September.
