A 22-year-old special needs teaching assistant from Ensbury Park has raised over £1,100 for Cancer Research UK by having 12 inches of her long hair cut off. Jenni Chohra entrusted her stylist Calum Morrell at A’Courts hair salon at Castlepoint to create two ponytails that will be sent to the the Little Princess Trust.
The charity provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
Jenni says that she was inspired to donate her hair due to the strength shown by her friend Jill Firmin also from Ensbury Park who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January and is now undergoing chemotherapy.
“Jill is such an inspiration and I wanted to try and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK and I have managed to raise £1,150 within three weeks of fundraising on my justgiving page. She writes a daily blog to help support others going through chemotherapy and I felt it was important to do something for her which acknowledges the strength and courage she has had throughout this process.”
Jenni’s family and friends were initially shocked that she would lose her locks as she always wore her hair down but supported the fundraising chop. Jenni has now set herself the target to frequently give blood and run the race for life for Cancer Research UK.
