More than just an air show, the ninth Bournemouth Air Festival is almost ready for lift off.
Set against an award-winning backdrop, entertainment includes chart-topping live music from Kaiser Chiefs and Travis, breathtaking fireworks and immense support from the armed forces alongside adrenaline-pumping air displays demonstrating incredible feats of aircraft skill.
Between 18–21 August there will be more than 15 display teams and 40 aircraft supported by more than 55 ground crew. This includes the world-famous Red Arrows, The Blades Super Aerobatics and RAF Typhoon alongside this year’s new additions the Swiss Super Puma Display Team, Mitchell B-25, StrikeMaster, Great War Display Team and Otto the helicopter.
Swiss Air Force Super Puma display pilot, Captain Matthieu Ghiringhelli said; “On behalf of the Swiss Air Force I am delighted we will be participating at this summer’s Bournemouth Air Festival – we have heard great things about the event on the air show circuit. Last seen in 2013, Breitling Wingwalkers will return and the ever-popular Tigers Parachute Team will make daily jumps from an amazing 6,000 feet freefalling at an incredible 120mph. Not forgetting the iconic SallyB, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Twister Duo and The Blades – this year will see top female pilot Kirsty Murphy join the team as Blade3.
Night Air entertainment will be headlined by Kaiser Chiefs and Travis on Friday with ‘Sunsets on the Beach’ headlined by Example and DJ Wire on Saturday. Complemented with glittering dusk displays from The Red Devils, Aerosparx and Otto with Team Fireflies.
With1 million people expected to enjoy a feast of exhilarating aeronautical excitement, daring dusk displays and a huge variety of musical entertainment, the 2016 Bournemouth Air Festival is certainly set to be the event of the summer.
