Jo Trussell an aspiring sports star from West Moors has received a legacy award from West Moors Parish Council.
The award, of up to £1,000 for a rising sports star aged 11-17, was offered by the parish council to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games in London last year.
Joe is the National Junior Jitsu champion and is due to take part in the Jitsu International Championships in Edinburgh in 2013. He trains at the Ferndown Jitsu Club in the Heatherlands Community Centre,and also helps to train the next generation by teaching mini jitsu to 4 to 7 year olds.
The formal presentation of the award took place on 30 January, 2013, at the Ferndown Jitsu Club where members of the council and invited guests were treated to a wonderful demonstration by young people of all ages. Joe received a certificate and trophy.
The chairman of the parish council, Cllr Penny Yeo said, “West Moors Parish Council would like to say a huge thank you to the Jitsu club for such a wonderful evening organised by John Hanrahan, the demonstration was absolutely amazing with so many talented young people. The demonstration was followed by a light supper sponsored by Synergy Housing.
“The parish council would also like to thank Phoenix Marble and Granite of West Moors for their kind donation of the marble base for the trophy.”
