Despite what you may read in the papers and online, Legal Aid has not died but is severely restricted, and Letchers Solicitors are still able to offer Legal Aid.
Letchers Solicitors has once again passed the SQM Quality Assurance Audit which will enable them to continue providing Legal Aid services for clients for Crime, Family and Mediation for the next 3 years.
Legal Aid is available for anyone who is arrested or is requested to attend at Police Station for an interview whatever their financial circumstances might be; in Family cases where clients fall within scope, mainly due to a history of domestic violence or serious child neglect; and Legally Aided Mediation which is dependent upon a client’s means.
Michael Stocken, Senior Partner of Letchers Solicitors, says “Letchers Solicitors are pleased to be able to offer Legal Aid services in times when many firms have long since given up offering Legal Aid.
“Being able to offer Legal Aid services to clients underlines the commitment of Letchers to provide an all-round legal service to clients on a continuing basis.” He continues, “Any announcement of the death of Legal Aid is extremely premature. Though it is offered in restricted circumstances, Legal Aid can still be offered in emergency situations, such as Domestic Violence Injunctions, intervention by Local Authorities in children cases and in other instances where a client has been the victim on serious domestic violence.
