Far from being terrified, the Bournemouth Hospital Charity has said it is thrilled to welcome a brand new resident to its ever-expanding orchard garden – a lion called ‘Britania’.
The colourful fibre-glass model has been loaned to the hospital by Britannia Leatherbarrows and will take pride of place overlooking the lake at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Britania was originally created by artist Hazel Evans who painted the striking Union Jack motif as part of the Pride in Bournemouth art event in 2011.
The model has spent the last five years keeping guard at Leatherbarrows’ head office at Bournemouth Airport but will now add some welcome colour to the hospital’s outdoor area.
Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Corporate Fundraising Officer, Andrea Piédôt, says that the charity is delighted to have been loaned Britania and says the model,”is certainly an eye-catching new feature and has been the talk of the hospital.”
Britannia Leatherbarrows’ self-storage manager, Darren Vale, believes the lion will be a fantastic addition to the hospital orchard garden.
“It gives everyone here, staff, patients and their families a quiet, scenic area to relax outside,” says Vale. “We just hope the lion adds some extra colour and joy to this already beautiful area.”
“Leatherbarrows has a fantastic relationship with Bournemouth Hospital and has done for many years now, not just that they use our storage services, but many of the Leatherbarrows team have close ties personally to this hospital.”
