Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club President, Frank Fortey, presented a cheque for £2500 to the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF). The money was raised from the Dorset Charity Horse & Dog Show and a recent quiz night at the Barrington Centre in Ferndown.
The Lions have supported the JTYAF since 2011 and have raised over £6000 for the Ferndown based charity. The JTYAF supports young people from a wide range of youth organisations providing them with scholarships and bursaries to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.
Pete Thornton commented “We really appreciate the fantastic support we receive from the Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club. Together we are making a real difference to the lives of local young people.”
Fundraising Chair Lion Neil Godfrey said “We are delighted to continue to support this worthwhile local charity that helps so many local young people to realise their ambitions”.
The Lions meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Royal British Legion in Church Road, Ferndown from 7.30 pm, new members are welcome.
The next major fundraiser supporting youth projects in East Dorset will be a Ladies Night on Friday 9 November at The Allendale Centre, Wimborne. The evening hosts live music, a magician, stalls and cheeky butlers. Tickets are available from Neil Godfrey on 01202 240423. Tickets £12.50 each, includes a glass of wine and canapés.
