Wimborne Musical Theatre are to present comedy horror sci-fi musical, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, at the Tivoli Theatre, Wimborne from Thursday 7 April to Saturday 9 April.
Set in the 1960s, it tells the story of Seymour, the assistant at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in Skid Row, New York, who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and exotic plant. He names it Audrey Two, in order to impress the lovely Audrey, the shop assistant he’s secretly in love with.
However Audrey Two has a mind of its own, and grows into a bad-tempered, foul-mouthed carnivore with an insatiable appetite. Seymour has to feed it to stop his prized plant from wilting, but how far is he willing to go, to get the girl of his dreams?
The music, which tells the story through the lyrics, is composed in various styles – 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop, and Motown – and includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘Skid Row’, ‘Somewhere That’s Green’, and ‘Suddenly, Seymour’ plus no less than 16 other songs.
Sylvia Walpole, chairman of WMTS said: “We originally planned to perform this delightful musical in 2021, but as with many other plans, this was postponed because of ‘you know what’. However we are delighted to be able to present it this April at the Tivoli Theatre, with a superb cast many of whom regard ‘Little Shop’ as one of their favourite shows.”
Tickets are £16 for adults and £14 for concessions and can be booked at www.tivoliwimborne.co.uk or call the Tivoli box office on 01202 885566. Performances are at 7.30pm each evening plus a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday 9 April.
