The local council election in Christchurch has so far resulted in 19 Conservative councillors, two Independents and one UKIP councillor. There is one ward which has still to vote as one of the candidates, Robert Walls, sadly died shortly before the election so the vote in North Highcliffe & Walkford will now take place on 18 June when two councillors will be elected.
Four councillors have been elected for the first time – Janet Abbott (UKIP) in Grange, Wendy Grace (Con) in the town centre, Andy Barfield (Con) in Mudeford & Friars Cliff and Vicki Hallam (Con) in Highcliffe. Margaret Phipps has moved from Portfield ward to St Catherine’s & Hurn and Tavis Fox has moved from St Catherine’s & Hurn to Portfield ward.

In East Dorset, where the number of councillors was reduced from 36 to 29 at this election along with some boundary changes, there are now 24 Conservative councillors, three Liberal Democrats and two Independents.
New councillors at this election are Cathy Lugg (Con) in Ameysford, K. D. Johnson (Con) in Colehill East, Paul Harrison (Con) in Corfe Mullen, Peter Ogglesby (Con) and Julie Robinson (Con) in Ferndown Central, Ray Bryan (Con) and Barry Goringe (Con) in St Leonards and Shane Bartlett (Lib Dem) in Wimborne Minster. Toni Coombs and Spencer Flower are now Independent councillors in Verwood West having previously been Conservative. Six councillors were returned in uncontested wards – Steve Butler, Simon Tong, Simon Gibson, Boyd Mortimer, Toni Coombs and Spencer Flower.
