The charity aims to raise over £9 million to build a new Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital in Dorset.
The existing unit, built in 1974, provides palliative care services for patients suffering from any advanced, progressive, incurable illnesses And has seen patient referrals triple in the last 10 years.
The new treatment centre will ensure patients receive the best possible care from Macmillan’s dedicated team of professionals and become a benchmark for future palliative care wards.
Nicola Lowe, managing partner at HGW solicitors, said, “We are delighted to have been able to donate £3,000 to Macmillan Caring Locally. I have a personal connection with the charity as my father was cared for at the unit in the final stages of his life and ironically he was one of the first ambulance drivers to bring patients to the Macmillan Unit when it first opened its doors over 40 years ago.”
Lin Sharp, capital appeal director, Macmillan Caring Locally charity, said, “We are very grateful for the generous donation from HGW’s Charitable Trust in support of our Brick by Brick Appeal. Thanks to their support we have moved one step closer to achieving our aim of building a world class palliative care unit.”
