Local volunteers celebrated at Culture Volunteers Awards evening
The commitment and achievements of local volunteers were celebrated at the Poole Cultural Volunteers Awards evening held recently.
Volunteers, Culture and Community staff, and councillors gathered on 24 July to celebrate the hard work, selfless dedication, and commitment that volunteers donated throughout the year to a variety of services including Poole’s libraries, parks and gardens, and the museum.
Seven awards were presented to volunteers who had provided outstanding service as a cultural volunteer of Poole in the past year.
This year’s winners were:
Jan Ayrton – Volunteer of the Year
Chloe Talbot – Young Volunteer Award
Danny Sweeney – Contribution to a Single Project
Linda Metcalf – Personal Achievement Award
Teresa Town – Versatile Volunteer
Becky Sampson – Skills Sharing Award
Roger Burbidge – Jolliffe-Allenby Award (exceptional service to Culture & Community Learning)
Each winner was awarded an exclusive, hand-painted Poole Pottery dish, donated by Poole Pottery and painted by lead paintress Nikki Masserella, presented by the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Lindsay Wilson.
Cllr Wilson said, “Our volunteers truly prove that there is no limit to what the people of Poole can do. From creating stunning gardens and inviting parks, to teaching computer classes and sharing skills, we cannot say thank you enough for the wonderful services provided throughout our town.”
Cllr Mohan Iyengar, cabinet member for Culture and Learning, Borough of Poole said, “I’d like to recognise all of our volunteers across the arts, libraries, recreation, learning and the museum. And especially our coordinators who match people to opportunities and make it all happen. The team is expanding, so if you want to help coordinate some of the most worthy projects in our Borough, do get in touch.”
Culture Volunteers Poole is a dedicated team providing a volunteering programme of opportunities to support the council’s arts, museums and library services.
It offers volunteering opportunities ranging from one-off events, such as festival stewarding or events assistants, to more regular activities, including archiving, or monthly assistance with social media and newsletters.
